Alex Tapscott, co-author of "Blockchain revolution" delivers an intriguing talk at Google on the potential of blockchain and how it can transform the world of business and reshape the old order of human affairs. Entire industries from banking and financial services, media, commerce, art and governance models are deemed ripe for disruption. Transactions which are currently executed through powerful or centralized institutions and intermediaries will be replaced by those run on distributed peer-to-peer systems that work in collaboration and are built on the principles of strong cryptography and a new establishment of trust. Assets and contracts will become distributed across a global ledger that is infinitely more secure than the computer systems we have today. Blockchain holds the potential for a new model for the stock market, new models for democracy and increased prosperity for all including those at the bottom of the pyramid through new models for wealth creation that engage more people in the economy.
