Penguin cafe orchestra was established by guitarist Simon Jeffes in 1972 to create a space that could overcome the rigidity of classical music and the limitations of rock and to work within freedom and acceptance across the outer bounds of these genres.

Perpetuum mobile, a 1987 composition has been used as theme music for several films, TV and radio programmes.

For me, it has often served as the quintessential orchestra for the holidays, a local driving accompaniment and a reminder of the renewed vigor that represents the beginning of a new year.
